Classic Cannabutter (Stovetop Method)
The foundational ingredient for cannabis cooking. This stovetop method gives you full control over temperature to preserve THC while fully activating (decarboxylating) your cannabis.
Ingredients
- 7g dried cannabis (decared)
- 115g unsalted butter
- 120ml water
Per serve: 102 kcal, 11.4g fat · 1 tablespoon (15g)
Instructions
- 01 Decarboxylate your cannabis at 110°C (230°F) for 40 minutes on a lined baking tray. Let cool completely.
- 02 Melt butter with water in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over the lowest heat setting.
- 03 Add decarbed cannabis, stir, and maintain a gentle simmer — never boil. Cover with a loose lid.
- 04 Simmer for 45 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. The water prevents the butter from overheating.
- 05 Strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a jar. Squeeze out all liquid. Discard plant material.
- 06 Refrigerate until solid. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 6 weeks.
Always start with a low dose and wait at least 60 minutes before taking more. Keep out of reach of children. Effects vary based on individual tolerance and cannabis potency.
